Speaker hopeful of lasting peace in Tirap

ITANAGAR, June 4: Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Speaker Wanglin Lowangdong was hopeful that peace and happier days would return to Tirap district. He was addressing the public at Borduria about 10 km from Khonsa after the inauguration of a primary health Centre at Borduria village today.

The Speaker admitted that the district was passing through a difficult phase but added that at the end of the dark tunnel there is light. He emphatically said that what Tirap needed the most was a lasting peace as nothing worth-while can be achieved in the absence of peace.

He said that Arunachal Pradesh being a young state, has innumerable challenges and obstacles to surmount adding that with a clear roadmap for development from the elected leaders and  active participation of all the stake holders, the state would soon achieve its cherished goal of all-round prosperity.

Lowangdong, while lauding the effort of the health department and executing agency PWD for making the PHC a reality, told the large cheering crowd that no efforts would be spared at his level to ensure that the new PHC was well-equipped with staff and other required infrastructure.

Speaking on the occasion, Tirap D C W.Lowang while congratulating the people for getting a new PHC, asked them to extend their fullest cooperation to the Speaker who has ushered in unprecedented development in the whole Borduria area. He further urged the people to maintain the assets like PHC and school buildings properly.

All the panchayat leaders and public leaders who spoke on the occasion showered lavish praises on the Speaker for his development initiatives. They said in unison that a long-felt need of the people of the area has been fulfilled with the establishment of the PHC.

The DMO, Incharge Dr. S. Roy and Dr. K. Perme, DRCHO also spoke on  the occasion. ADC Khonsa, HoDs and public leaders from Borduria area attended the function.

AAPSU’s appeal to Govt

ITANAGAR, June 4:  All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) has appealed to the state Govt, particularly education department to release the mark sheets of the students so that they could apply for further  study in universities outside the state in time.

May reputed universities like Delhi university and universities of South India had announced admission schedule with last date for admission  for successful students of class X and class XII examinations  from June 8 to 10, AAPSU general secretary Tujum Poyom  said  and regretted that  many students of the state are passing through traumatic situation  as they failed to obtain original mark sheet yet for admission  purposes.

The AAPSU leader also requested the education department to check the credentials of the agents (consultancy service providers for higher education) before they lure the students with their attractive advertisement. Poyom further said that formal certificate to  genuine agents  should be issued as consultants so that students do not land in wrong and non-affiliated institutions for pursuing higher or technical education. While calling upon the senior students who are studying in  outside the state to help out  their fellow Arunachalee students, AAPSU also appealed to parents/guardians of the students to  take help of Arunachalee senior students and organizations outside  state for selection of right institutions.

 

Nyishi legislators urge Govt to address Thakur issue

ITANAGAR, June 4: In an effort to resolve the issues between All Nyishi Students Union (ANSU) / Nyishi Elite Society and Pradeep Thakur of Time of India in connection with the alleged derogatory remarks on Nyishis, a delegation of Nyishi legislators led by Atum Welly, Heath and Family Welfare and Rural Works Minister met the Chief Minister Jarbom Gamlin and apprised him of the sentiment of the entire Nyishi communit yesterday. The delegation impressed upon the chief minister to intervene in the case and take all possible measures to address the issue.  This was informed by Welly, the convener of the Nyishi Legislator Forum in a statement.

Welly further said that the Chief Minister informed the delegation that the police department had taken prompt action in pursuing the case. The CM assured that Govt will issue a status paper on the matter within a day.

 

Governor to participate in World Environment Day prog.

ITANAGAR, June 4: Raj Bhavan will tomorrow join the rest of the world to observe the World Environment Day.

Arunachal Pradesh Governor Gen JJ Singh along with school children, members of Muskan Welfare Society, officials of Environment and Forest and Raj Bhavan will be taking part in the plantation programme.

In his effort to maintain the vast green cover and also to make Arunachal Pradesh a plastic free state, the Governor has been participating in numbers of eco friendly programmes in the past.

In 2010, Gen Singh along with Chief Election Commissioner Navin B Chawla, who was on a two-day visit to the State,Arunachal Pradesh Governor Gen JJ Singh took part in the World Environment Day celebration at CRPF Hq, Senki View.

In 2009, Governor took part in the plantation at Raj Bhavan complex organized by Muskan society in collaboration with department of Environment and Forests, as a part of State wide programme.  Inspite of heavy shower, a large number of students from different schools of capital complex, including children from Donyi Polo School for Hearing impaired, Chimpu and Collegians from Don Bosco College, Julli led by the Governor and State First Lady  took part in the programme. The then Capital Complex Deputy Commissioner Padmini Singla, SP Hibu Tamang, Chief Conservator of Forest T. Millang and other senior officers of Forest department,  members of Muskan Society and Raj Bhavan officials also actively took part in it.

The Plantation programme, where more than thousands saplings were  planted at Raj Bhavan complex is an endeavour of the Muskan Society members led by State First Lady Anupama Singh to instill love for the nature amongst the children at tender age and also to create awareness on climate changes, greenhouse gas effects and other environment related issues.

Large numbers of saplings, including Teeta Champa and Hollong which are found in the foothills to middle belt of Arunachal Pradesh to Hollok trees of Tirap, Changlang and Lohit areas were planted on the day. Rudrask, timber valued trees like Bogi Poma, Lali Poma and Jamun, medicinal trees like Arjun and Camper, multiple uses trees like Kanchan and flowering ones like Gulmohar in addition to much valued species like Azar were also planted by the participants in the Raj Bhavan Complex which are being well maintained by the concerned department. Today, it has become a demonstration area featuring all economical viable and important trees of Arunachal Pradesh.

 

World Environment Week celebration

ITANAGAR, June 4: G.B. Pant institute of Himalayan Environment and Development, NE Unit, Itanagar, in collaboration with Nature Care and Disaster Management Society (NCDAMS), Ziro celebrated World Environment Week 2011 in Apatani Plateau. In continuation of the WED-2011 celebration, G.B. Pant Institute organized drawing and quiz competitions on the theme of ‘Forest Conservation ’for  the school students.  As many as 75 students from 8 different schools of the Apatani plateau participated in the event..

Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya, Dobi, stood first in the quiz competition, while  Frontier Hr. Secondary School and Ziro Valley School secured second and third places respectively.  Hamam Anga (Class-IV), Little Angel school won 1st prize of drawing competition while Mihin Asha (class-VI), Ziro Valley School and Toko Neme (class-VIII), Frontier Hr. Sc. School got 2nd and 3rd position respectively.  

This whole program was conducted as a part of UNDP-GoI-CCF-II Project, entitled ‘Biodiversity conservation through CBNRM’, which is being implemented by the GBPI in Apatani Plateau and Tawang-West Kameng  biosphere reserve (proposed). Dr. L. J. Singh, Program Manager UNDP Project, and Rubu Buker, chairman, NCDAMS briefed on UNDP project activities and their linkages to forest conservation to the participants. R.S. Vist, senior teacher DIET, also shared some though of inspiration with the participants. The program was ended with prize and certificate distribution.

Er. M.S. Lodhi, Scientist, G.B. Pant Institute delivered a speech on aims and objectives of World Environment Week 2011 celebration.

BAF to conduct grass root level tour

ITANAGAR, June 4: Bogum Ao Foundation (BAF), Itanagar in its executive body meeting held here today resolved to conduct grass root level awareness tour to improve the education scenario and promote national integration and brotherhood amongst the various tribes of the state.

It further resolved to felicitate the meritorious students belonging to Bogum clans who secured more than 70 per cent in aggregate marks in the last CBSE examination of Class X and Class XII as a token of appreciation and encouragement.

While resolving to learn, adopt and spread the indigenous script Tanilipi among all tribes of the state, the Foundation decided to organize its 2nd conferenece on November next at Nari, East Siang and document the genealogy of all Bogums.

 

Long-felt demand fulfilled: ATA

ITANAGAR, June 4: Arunachal Teachers’ Association (ATA) has said that its long felt demand for appointment of a regular and full-fledged director of elementary education from among the senior most departmental officers has been fulfilled with appointment of Bodang Yirang to the said post. Yirang was holding the post of Joint director of School Education earlier. ATA CEC expressed hope that the other grievances of the ATA would also be sympathetically considered by the government which includes immediate rectification of pay anomalies of different categories of teachers, 50% promotional avenue of Assistant Teachers to Junior Teachers etc.

The ATA  said that appointment of Yirang as DEE will boast the morale of the teaching community in the department and will herald a new era in the field of elementary education in the state.

 

Pentecost Day

ITANAGAR, June 04: Arunachal Pradesh Christian Revival Church Sub-Council Area-V is celebrating 7th Pentecost Day at Christian Prayer Centre, Kamru Dumporijo from June 10 to 12.

Pastor, CPC Harahapa Rev. Nabam Sango and Evan Mania Kodak would attend the programme as speakers. During the celebration, healing services, Lord Supper and Baptism programmes will be conducted.

 

All Adi Youths Association formed

ITANAGAR, June 4: All Adi Youths Association (AAYA) has been formed with Olik Komut and George Modi as its president and general secretary along with Tani Taki and Kasar Padung as its vice presidents in a meeting held at Pasighat today.

 

Medical team visit Mengio

ITANAGAR: A medical team headed by Yupia DRCHO Dr N Lowang visited the measles infected area of Mengio circle and  took immediate measures to contain outbreak of  the disease, said All Mengio Students Union (AMSU) in a release today.

The union further informed that the medical team stressed on mass immunization to prevent the spread of disease and collection of sample for laboratory test at regional medical research centre, Dibrugarh. The team also appealed to the MO in-charge of Mengio PHC to continue immunization against measles along with other measures to contain the disease, the union further said. The union appreciated the medical team for their prompt action.

 

Miss Beauty of Arunachal -2011

ITANAGAR: Inspired with the last year fabulous success, the  Arunoday Society, has decided to organize Miss Beauty of Arunachal 2011-session –II’ on July 30 next. The main aim of the beauty contest is to motivate and provide the female section a platform to promote their personality, the Society said in a release.   The release further said that the platform will also help various tribes promote cultural and communal harmony apart from showcasing their traditional costumes. It also brings awareness about child and women development and HIV/AIDS, the Society said.
